Newton Bridge Solutions Ltd. was entrusted with this COMRIF funded project for the design and build of three 36m long spans x 4m wide deck width providing increased durability from a wood deck to a fibreglass deck and requiring water blasting and painting of the steel bridge.

Newton Bridge Solutions has set up a manufacturing facility to construct the bridge decks in Guelph, Ontario and then transports the decks to the site.

The bridge technology used by Newton Bridge Solutions for the Dean Lake Bridge project is manufacturing the bridge decks from Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymers (GFRP bridges). The GFRP is a recognized bridge technology and provides for higher strength, low weight and has long lasting characteristics.

This deck system is unique in that it is made from a combination of wood, fibre glass reinforced polymer and steel. All components work very well together and have unique characteristics which when pulled together makes a great combination.

Removal of wood timber deck and replacement/realignment of steel members prior to placing Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) compsite deck (October 2007)

Transport of GFRP composite deck with supporting steel structure and asphaltic wear course inclusive. ~37m in total.

Each GFRP panel transported across new deck using an innovative carrier and placement system.

GFRP composite deck and bridge work completed.
